Chictopia, the fashion social network, have launched some new blogs or something called “Everybody Is Ugly”.  Apparently they will tell you how to dress.  They say, “everybody is ugly is Chictopia’s official publication to help people look less ugly by offering dressing advice and style tips. because without style, everybody is ugly.”  Lavley.

Harry Potter still taking over the world
June 16th, 2008 | Posted in Fashion, Movies

Proof that the magic never stops for the Harry Potter franchise, Hermione Granger, also known as Emma Watson, has just landed a £3m contract as the new face of Chanel. Emma replaces Keira “Hello, I’m so lovely” Knightley, who’s star is clearly on the wane after the dreadful Pirates Of The Caribbean 3.

Is this any kind of shock though?  The girl had websites dedicated to counting down the days until she hit 16 and became ‘legal’.  Chanel have recently been dressing the increasingly elegant Watson for film premieres and “integrating her into the brand”.  The deal kicks off in the summer and will last for two years - or the period she remains the lead female in the biggest film franchise this side of Princess Leia.

Madonna’s Sticky And Sweet For Heatherette
June 6th, 2008 | Posted in Fashion, Music

For anyone who missed the memo, Heatherette are a New York based design duo who became huge when Sex and the City megastar stylist Patricia Field bought 20 of one of their designs at first sight.  Since then it’s been a ride up a gloriously trashy trail.

Heatherette have dressed the likes of drags queens, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.  Yeah, they really got that drag queen thing down.  Their stuff is an orgasm of colour, sequins and tatters served up in the form of club wear.  If anyone wants to buy me some Heatherette, I won’t say no.

This has not gone un-noticed by the once queen of New York, and now Queen Of Pop, Madonna, who has asked the Heatherette boys to knock up some stuff for the Sticky And Sweet Tour.  Amazing.

Liz Rosenberg, her publicist, just contacted us and said that she wants us to come up with some sketches, some ideas and some inspirations for her tour,” Richie Rich explained. “I think, basically, for Madonna’s tour, we’ll come up with some sketches, some inspirations and listen to the album to get some ideas, and as young designers, we’ll come up with what we think is happening right now. That’s why Madonna’s a genius — she picks out the new blood, and we’ll see what happens. She already did the cowboy hat, so we’ll need to think of something else,” Rich joked.

Madonna is definitely into this whole candy coloured, modern punk fashion wave.  Just take a look at the teeshirt merch from the upcoming tour.  Me wanty:

Continuing the drag queen theme, Heatherette have recently teamed up with Mac Cosmetics (the drag make-up of choice), to launch their own cross-branded make-up.  The collection is all hot sparkles and strong pigments.  And the packaging is like a big gay disco.  Fabulous.

Perez The Hot Topic
May 21st, 2008 | Posted in Fashion, Pop Culture

For anyone who missed the memo, Perez Hilton is launching his own line of Perez branded clothing, through US chain Hot Topic.  Hot Topic already offer celebrity branded shit from the likes of Jeffree Star, and specialise in neon pink, skull branded scene kid wear.

Perez said the line came about as an antidote to the badly designed and overpriced ‘celebrity’ fashion lines from the likes of Lauren Conrad.  He says in a statement:

“I keep seeing these lines from the likes of Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag that give me nightmares.  My brand will be very conscious of my audience.”

Now, when I first heard about this deal, I was in a state of shock.  Perez is not known for his awesome taste in fashion, infact the overweight, multicoloured haired model of horrendous outfits such as this…

…is more famous for his lack of taste.  The idea of Perez doing fashion sounds about as likely as a nazi running a synagog.  But, in an interview with Blog Herald, Matt Meyerson, who was involved in making the deal between the two parties happen, points out the following:

“I think it is important to view this line more as a merchandise deal than a fashion deal though. Perez is not trying to be Lauren Conrad. Rather, this product is an extension of the media empire he has built on a variety of merchandise, some of which happens to be apparel.”

Having seen a selection of the line, which includes items like neon sunglasses and ‘gossip journals’, it is clear to see that this move is much less about fashion than it is about selling branded trash to the young girls who read Perez’s column.  The line does now follow Gwen Stefani’s and Madonna’s leads of serious fashion, but is similar to the kind of band related merch you might by at a gig.  Further proof, perhaps, that Perez is this generation’s rock star.  I’ve got confess to wanting that green journal…

Pop culture can be so dull and drab, but it can also be like an orgasm in an ice cream shop. Daneeeboy is about celebrating the stuff that makes your clit tingle, and not the other stuff. Simon Cowell is not welcome here. If you are Simon Cowell, please fuck off.

I like stuff that is independent. Stuff that speaks for itself. Stuff that makes me want to dance. Stuff that makes me want to cry. Stuff that's cheap and tacky. The glamorous, the dirty, the over the top and the insane.
